Transfer window shuffles the betting pack

The first transfer window of this soccer season may have been a modest affair by comparison with previous events, but it has resulted in some movement on the betting scene.

Chelsea are now solid favourites to win the Premier League, with leading sportsbook Pinnacle Sports offering the best price at 2.50 (6/4). Pinnacle also have the best price on Manchester United, at 4.50 (7/2). Eurobet, Unibet and Paddy Power all go 8.00 (7/1) on flying-starters Arsenal (ignore their unlucky reverse at Old Trafford last weekend, they were much the better side!), and
Eurobet are also the best bet for a punt on Liverpool at 9.00 (8/1).

Outside the "Big Four" are big spenders Manchester City - 15.00 (14/1) at Ladbrokes - and dark horses Tottenham Hotspur at a tempting 45.00 (44/1) with
Pinnacle Sports. Those who prefer to take a bigger gamble of course could take a chance with Portsmouth, Birmingham or Hull, all of which are 7501.00 (7500/1) with Ladbrokes!

Across the pond, of course, the NFL season is about to commence. Favourites to win outright are the New England Patriots at 6.50 (11/2) with Betsson, with the Pittsburgh Steelers their closest rivals at 11.50 (21/2) with 10Bet.

Fickle bookies lose faith in Man United after Burnley shock

It seems that, like the proverbial Weeble, the bookies can't stop wobbling this season. One shock defeat to Burnley has sent Manchester United's price at Pinnacle Sports for winning the Premier League title out to 4.50 (7/2), with Chelsea now clear favourites with Blue Square at 2.60 (8/5).

Meanwhile there is talk of a "Hammers Hoodoo", with West Ham having won just two of their last seventeen meetings with Tottenham Hotspur. One has to fancy Spurs' chances again on their current form, and Bet365's 2.38 (11/8) seems an attractive offer - with or without their generous sign-up bonus! The more cautious might prefer Pinnacle's draw offer at 3.44 (61/25).

Unfortunately following their comprehensive demolition of Everton last week and their somewhat luckier brace of goals against Celtic in the Champions League, the sportsbooks aren't taking many chances on Arsenal, with the best price on offer being 1.20 (1/5) at Pinnacle. Those who believe in miracles can get an incredible 23.50 (45/2) at Redbet on Portsmouth to turn them over, or 7.50 (13/2), also at Redbet, for the draw.

Happy hunting.

Bet365 offering best price on a Chelsea triumph in weekend West London derby

Manchester United are currently being beaten by Burnley in tonight's Premier League clash - it's early in the match but if it stays that way expect their price to win the title to push out, and those of the other big sides to narrow accordingly. Could be worth taking a bet on them with Pinnacle Sports, which seems to be offering the top prices, and laying them at Betfair or Betdaq when they win a few matches.

The weekend's fare seems to be throwing up some unexciting spectacles, with the biggest match arguably being Sunday's West London derby between Fulham and Chelsea. The best price available on Fulham currently seems to be 6.75 (23/4) at Expekt, with Bet365 offering the draw at 3.75 (11/4) and also 1.62 (8/13) for a Chelsea victory.

Both offer an attractive sign-up bonus for new customers.

Arsenal - underrated by the bookies or a false dawn?

It's amazing what a few goals can do. Little more than 24 hours ago you could get 17.0 (16/1) on Arsenal to win this year's Premier League. One clincal 6-1 demolition of Everton later and the best price on offer right now is 9.50 (17/2), at world leaders Pinnacle Sports.

Of course if you're an Arsenal fan, or even a casual observer who was awestruck by their magnificant performance at Goodison, this may still seem to you like a very sound investment compared with 3.50 (5/2) - Pinnacle again - on Manchester United, who struggled to beat newcomers Birmingham, or 3.00 (2/1) at Ladbrokes on Chelsea, who managed to overcome the mighty Hull in time added on. If so I'd go for it, because another performance like yesterday's and the price will be shorter still.

If however you think it is a fickle price, this might be a good opportunity to lay at
Betfair at 7.32 (316/50). Indeed if that price is still available, you could back it at Pinnacle and lay it at Betfair and lock in a guaranteed profit today!

It's always interesting to watch the fluctuations in the prices at this early stage in the season. A bit of intuition can make you a healthy profit.
